Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. ( Colossians 3:2-3)
As a child of God you hail from God’s kingdom. Your focus in life therefore, should be on things from above. This means setting your mind and affection on Him and things pertaining to His Kingdom.
As a Christian you must learn to recognise and discard things which are not from God. It’s important to not invest your time, effort and attention into things which are not from above.
Thus, the admonition to set your affection on things above in our main verse, means to have control on your mind and consciously set your thinking on spiritual things. Remember that the things you think about are the things that will control your actions.
Your mind is a very powerful machine; you can twist or control it any way you choose. Exercise your mind to develop a liking for spiritual things; exercise your interests in the things of God. Attend church services. Study and meditate on the Word. Maintain a disciplined prayer life. And, win souls. These are spiritual activities to consciously engage in, in training yourself to set your affections on things above. As you do that your life will be different from others, it will be glorious.
Prayer:
Dear Father, I thank you for giving me the Holy Spirit, which is my ever present help. I consciously exercise my mind to focus on the things from above. None of my steps shall ever slide. I’m from above and I have set my affection on things from above, in Jesus Name. Amen!
