And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up (Matthew 13:4)
Whenever you receive the Word of God into your heart, the forces of darkness, knowing the power of the Word, come quickly to attempt to steal it from your heart. This is what the Lord Jesus brought to light in the parable of the sower. The book of Mark puts it more precisely: “The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts” (Mark
4:14-15).
This is the reason why some people find it difficult to understand the Word after receiving it. This is why some people receive healing and loose it. This is why some people receive a Word of prophecy only to find themselves being attacked by opposing circumstances. The devil even tried to question Lord Jesus regarding the Word spoken about him. (ref. Luke 4:3). Of course, the Master successfully repelled the enemy because He had the Word in Him. As Jesus Himself is the Word (ref John 1:14).
You have to guard the Word in your heart because the devil only wants to steal the Word from your heart, he knows well that if he can do that, he can knock you down.
How do you guard the Word in your heart then? By letting it be deeply rooted in you. Colossians 3:16 says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly…”; that means let the Word settle and take root in your heart. When you receive the Word, don’t let it remain on the surface-soil of your heart where the enemy can reach it. Drive it deep into your spirit through meditation and praying in other tongues.
Prayer:
Precious Father, I thank you for the gift of your Word. I meditate on your Word day and night and make my way prosperous and have good success. Your Word is deeply rooted in my heart. In Jesus Name. Amen!
