Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort. (Daniel 3:28-29)
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were the three boys who were brought to Babylon along with Daniel. In Daniel chapter three, we read the inspiring testimony of these boys, who were bound and thrown into a fiery furnace for refusing to bow to king Nebuchadnezzar’s idol.
Before throwing them into fire; the king warned them of consequences, however, the boys stood their ground in faith saying: “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” (Daniel 3:17-18)
The king was so angry by their statement of faith that the Bible says: “….Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated” (Daniel 3:19). Nebuchadnezzar’s command was so urgent, and the fire was so intense that the soldiers who threw the three young Hebrew men into the furnace fell to death instantly. But then, right inside the fire, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego remained unhurt! A “fourth man” was inside the fire with them, and protected them. Not even a strand of their hair was damaged. At the sight of this, the Bible says “Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God (Daniel 3:23-25). The three boys came out of the fire without any harm. And the king and all nation praised, Lord God.
The Lord never promised that you wouldn’t go through the fire, but that when you walk through the fire you shall not be burnt; neither shall the flame kindle upon you (Isaiah 43:2). Therefore, as a child of God refuse to bow down to anything that’s against the Word of God. Stand your ground in faith. Don’t be intimidated by the forces of this world. Our Lord is your strength and your shield. You are harmproof.
Prayer:
Dear Father, thank you for being by strength and my shield. Nothing shall by any means hurt me. I’m protected by the anointing that’s at work in me. I walk in faith giving glory to your Name forevermore. Amen!
