“He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.” (John 5:35)
What a description of John the baptist; coming from the lips of the Master Himself!
You know, not every light is a burning and a shining light. Some are cool and dull, but Jesus gave witness that John was a burning and a shining light. And because John was a burning and a shining light, other people rejoiced in his light, so they could see with it. Do you know you can have the Lord describe you this way, within the context of your service to Him? Sure! Make up your mind to be not just a light, for you’re already the light of the world. Rather, be a burning and a shining light.
The way to burn and shine is by being effective in the things the Lord has called you to do. The Bible says “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord” (Romans 12:11). To be a burning and a shining light means you’re fervent, agile and enthusiastic about spiritual things. From sun up to sun down, the Gospel is paramount on your mind. You are interested in God’s number one business of winning souls.
As a burning and a shining light, you seek to touch everyone with the power of God. When there’s a need in the ministry, you’re there to give of your time, efforts and resources. This is how to burn and shine for the Lord. Before long, others will come and rejoice in your light; they’ll hear your inspiring testimonies and be stirred to pray and make impact just like you.
Confession
The Word is like a burning fire shut up in my bones. I can’t hold it back; I’ll promote and publish it everywhere with fervency until it engulfs my world. I’m a burning and a shining light and many are coming to bask in the brightness of my light, in Jesus Name. Amen.
