You say, ‘Oh, it’s too difficult to serve the Lord and do what he asks.’ And you turn up your noses at the rules he has given you to obey. Think of it! Stolen animals, lame and sick – as offerings to God! Should I accept such offerings as these asks the Lord. Cursed is that man who promises a fine ram from his flock and substitutes a sick one to sacrifice to God. For I am a Great King, says the Lord Almighty, and my name is to be mightily revered among the Gentiles (Malachi 1:13-14 TLB).
God deserves the best. He is the most High and supreme amongst all. He has the authority and power over all things and there are certain principles He has given to us in His Word to live by, in order to direct this power in our lives; one of them is giving.
We don’t give to God because He needs us to give, we give to God to demonstrate our faithfulness and trust in Him. That is why it matters what you give and how you give it. Many people give to God those things which are not important to them, some even go to the point of offering those notes which have been rejected even by the banks. And they exclaim; “Atleast, we gave, there are some who don’t even give”. But, Bible tells us to follow those who through faith have obtained promises (ref. Hebrews 6:12), not those whose Lord is their stomach (ref. Philippians 3:19).
Your attitude at the time of giving also matters. When you give grudgingly, the Holy Spirit doesn’t accept your offering and it is not sanctified by Him. Hence, you may never receive the reward for your giving. Our main verse throws light on the mind of God towards the manner of giving.
Anytime you give God the best of what you have, you activate a Biblical principle and you’re blessed for your action of faith and trust. This is the reason why you must serve God with all your heart and worship Him with everything you have. No offering or sacrifice should be too great for you to give to Him, for you can never out-give God. So give Him the best all the time. You’re to give Him your ALL – the very best of who you are and what you have – your time, resources, energy, and your life; for He deserves the best. Revere Him through your giving.
Praise:
Awesome God, You are great and worthy of the very best! I worship you with the very best of me. You are the Most High and to you belongs all authority and power. My delight is in you now and forever!
