Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: (1 Sam 12:23)
In Acts 12, the Bible records that Herod had seized James and killed him. When he discovered that this pleased the Jews, he went further and wanted to kill Peter. The believers found themselves in a predicament, they had realized by this time that if they don’t intercede for Peter, he would suffer the same fate as James. Consequently, the Bible says, “…prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto GOD for him’’ (Acts 12:5)
Shortly, after the earnest, heartfelt and continued intercessory prayers offered by God’s people on Peter’s behalf, the Bible records that he was rescued from the prison by an angel of the Lord. Thank God they had learned their lesson with what happened to James and made intercession for Peter.
It’s important that we intercede for our fellow brothers and sisters. But sadly, when some believers come together, all they talk about is how bad things have gone and all the evil happening in the world. They shut their eyes to the problem other believers are facing. That should not be your case. Every time you have an opportunity to be with another believer, don’t spend all the time on trivial or irrelevant discussion; take some time to join your hands together in intercession for brethren in the church. Also, pray for your pastors and leaders, for it is they who watch over you, and it is due upon you to pray for them and their well-being at all times, just as the Church made prayers for their Pastor, Peter in Acts 12. Be actively involved in this; and the good thing you make happen for others, GOD will make it happen for you.
Prayer:
Precious Father, I thank you for the privilege of intercession. I refuse to be lazy and I pray earnestly for all saints. I refuse to waste my time and conversation on useless issues, rather I use every opportunity to pray with brethren for the churches and leaders around the world, in Jesus Name’. Amen!
