So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. (John 19:30)
Oftentimes, people ask why this Friday is celebrated as a “Good” Friday when Jesus died this day! It is a Good Friday because Jesus finished His work to make salvation available to us. It is Good because Jesus is not dead, He is risen, He is alive.
The sacrifice of Jesus on cross paid for the sins of all and finished the need for any more sacrifice. Priests of the Old Testament had to offer sacrifices year after year for a yearly atonement, Jesus did it once and obtained eternal redemption for mankind.
The Bible says the Old Testament priests were “… offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man (Jesus Christ), after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God” (Hebrews 10:11-12).
Tell it everywhere and to everyone: Christ Jesus has consummated man’s eternal redemption once and for all. And that is why this day is called “Good”. Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Blessed Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love. Thank you for sending Jesus for me and making me your very own. I’m washed, sanctified, and justified, free from sin, death, and destruction. Amen!
