And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. (James 2:23)

Abraham and his walk of faith with God is exemplary. He was a man who said “yes” to every command of God. It is because of his demonstration of faith that today, we are called the seed of Abraham. It is because of his faith that God called him a friend.

When God asked him to change his name from ‘Abram’ which meant assumed father, to ‘Abraham’ which meant father of many nations; he did not have any apprehensions. Bible tells us that the Lord spoke to him and said, “… behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee” (Genesis 17:4-5). Abraham believed God and immediately started answering the name Abraham, “the father of many nations.”

When God asked him to sacrifice Issac; his only son with whom God blessed him at old age, he did not hesitate and took Issac for the sacrifice; however God stopped him and blessed him for his faithfulness, declaring: “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring, all nations on earth will be blessed because you have obeyed me.” (Genesis 22:14-18). In Christ, we are the fulfillment of this blessing.

Now that we are in Christ and a seed of Abraham, we must remember to demonstrate unstaggering faith towards God and His Word. We must have the boldness to say, “YES” to His command in all situations and at all times. Remember, you can never suffer for saying, “Yes”, to God. God will always outgive you for your service unto Him.

Prayer:
Precious Father, I thank you for teaching me lessons of faith through your Word. I resolve to demonstrate unstaggering faith, I’m not moved by what I see or hear but I’m only moved by the Word of God, in Jesus mighty Name. Amen!
