He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself… (1 Corinthians 14:4)

One of the greatest gifts God has given every believer is the ability to build himself up spiritually. The Bible tells us that when we pray in tongues, we edify ourselves. The word edify means to build, strengthen, and develop. Just as a building grows stronger through careful construction, your inner man becomes stronger every time you spend time praying in the Spirit.

Many people wish they were spiritually stronger, yet they neglect one of God’s greatest provisions for spiritual growth. We don’t need to wait for a special meeting, a particular atmosphere, or someone else to encourage us. Through the Holy Spirit, God has already given us the privilege of strengthening ourselves wherever we are. Whether you are at home, travelling, working, or spending time with the Lord, you can pray in tongues and allow your spirit to be refreshed.

As you continue praying in the Spirit, your faith becomes stronger, your spiritual sensitivity increases, and your confidence in God’s Word grows. You become less moved by circumstances and more established in the truth. When difficult moments come, you will not be shaken because you have already been strengthening your spirit long before the battle arrived.

Make praying in tongues a daily habit. Don’t reserve it only for church services or prayer meetings. Build yourself every day, and you will continually walk in the strength that God has already provided for you.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the precious gift of the Holy Spirit. Thank You for giving me the ability to build myself up as I pray in tongues. My spirit grows stronger every day, my faith increases continually, and I become more established in Your Word. Thank You because I am growing into the person You have called me to be. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
