Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. ( Hebrews 13:5-6)
Many have missed the great light given to us in our main verse. Here, he says let your manner of life be without covetousness, and be content with what you have. He could have stopped there, and it would have been a powerful command from the Lord, but He didn’t. Rather, He continued and said in the concluding part of verse five: “…for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” He didn’t stop here either, otherwise it would have meant He merely wanted us to see a promise, which would have been good enough . However, He reveals something quite profound in the next verse and says, “…So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” Herein is the principle of affirmation : “God has said, so that you may boldly say….”!
When you study the scriptures and meditate on it and personalise it, the next thing is to affirm it boldly. When you affirm the Word, you don’t merely “quote” what God has said; you give your personal faith-response to the Word, on the basis of your understanding of His Word.
Make it a point that you always affirm the Word of God, personalising His promises. Affirm that you live above this world and have overcome its failing systems! Your life is for the glory of God, for the expression of His righteousness, dominion and excellence. Give glory to God!
Prayer:
Precious Father, I thank you for teaching me the power of affirmation. I study the scriptures, meditate there in and affirm the realities of my inheritance in Christ Jesus. Amen!
