And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is. (Hebrews 10:24–25)

There is a seriousness that must come into our Christian walk. Christianity is not something we practise only when we are in trouble or when we need God to do something for us. It is a life we have received in Christ, and that life must be lived every day. There are things we do because we are Christians—not to become Christians, but because the life of Christ is at work in us. Going to church, praying, studying the Word of God, fellowshipping with other believers, giving, serving, and growing spiritually are all part of cultivating our Christian life.

Going to church should not be something we do only when it is convenient. It should become a godly habit. When you gather with the saints, you are placing yourself in an environment where you can learn, receive instruction, worship, participate, and grow. You hear the Word of God being taught, you learn how the house of God functions, and you become acquainted with the things that matter in the Kingdom. You cannot consistently neglect the gathering of the saints and expect to develop a strong Christian life.

This is also why we must train our children in the things of God. Don’t wait until they are adults before teaching them to pray, attend church, listen to the Word, and participate in the things of the Spirit. Raise them in the house of God. Let them see that, life in Christ, is not merely something their parents talk about; it is the way the family lives. What becomes a habit in childhood can become a strong spiritual foundation for life.

Don’t merely know how to pray when there is a crisis; learn how to live for Christ when there is no crisis. Don’t only seek God for what He can give you; grow in your knowledge of who He is. There is a Christian life to live, and excellence begins when you make a deliberate decision to practise it.

Prayer:
Precious Father, I thank You for giving me the privilege of living the life in Christ. Thank You for every opportunity to grow, learn, serve, pray, and become more like Christ. I declare that I take my walk with You seriously. I am established in Your Word, committed to fellowship, and consistent in the things of the Spirit. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
