While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. (2 Corinthians 4:18)
What you continually focus on will influence how you experience life. If all you see are your problems, your problems will become larger in your mind than they actually are. If all you talk about is what is missing, you may fail to notice what God has already placed around you. This is why the Word of God teaches us to set our minds on the right things.
Life will always present you with reasons to complain. There will always be something that could have been better, something you wish had happened differently, or something you are waiting to receive. But there are also countless things to be grateful for. The earth is filled with the goodness of God, and every day carries evidence of His kindness.
Learn to notice the grace and goodness of God. A conversation that encouraged you. A door that opened unexpectedly. A danger you never knew you existed. Strength you received when you thought you could not continue. A person God placed in your path. A new day. A family member. An opportunity to serve. The ability to pray. The privilege of knowing Christ. These things can become ordinary to us if we stop paying attention.
When your attention is fixed on the goodness of God and the truth of His Word, you develop a different perspective. Learn to count your blessings, and you will become more conscious of the grace that surrounds you.
Prayer:
Precious Father, I thank You for Your goodness that surrounds my life every day. Thank You for the blessings I see and even for the things I do not know You have done for me. I choose to focus on Your goodness and the truth of Your Word. Thank You for giving me a grateful heart and eyes to recognise Your blessings every day, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
