And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over. (2 Kings 2:14)
After Elijah was taken up, Elisha stood before the Jordan with the mantle that had fallen from his master. He struck the waters and called upon the Lord, and the river divided. Elisha was not depending merely on what he had received from Elijah; he was looking to the God who had worked through Elijah.
Spiritual inheritance is valuable, but it must never replace personal dependence on God. We can learn from the faith of others, receive instruction, and benefit from godly examples, yet our confidence must ultimately be in the Lord God Himself.
Elisha’s question, “Where is the LORD God of Elijah?” reveals where his expectation was directed. He understood that the mantle alone was not the source of the miracle. His faith was connected to the living God and His continuing power.
Do not limit God to what you have seen Him do through someone else. Honour spiritual examples, but cultivate your own walk with the Lord. The same God who demonstrated His power in previous generations is still able to lead, strengthen, and work through those who trust in Him today.
Praise:
Glorious Father, I thank You because You are the living God, faithful in every generation. Thank You for the spiritual examples and instructions You have placed in my life. I declare that my confidence can rest directly in You, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
