And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury…(Mark 12:41)
In our main verse for today, we see how our Master Jesus, was watching over those who were giving their offerings in the temple at Jerusalem. It should show you how important your way of giving, is for the Lord. When we study further we see that Jesus, specially gave a beautiful remark about the old woman who gave two mites. He said: “….Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.” (Mark 12:43-44)
2 Corinthians 9:7 (AMP)says: “Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver [whose heart is in his giving].” This verse explains you what kind of a giver does God want you to be. And the next verse shows the result of such giving: “And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.” (2 Corinthians 9:8 AMP).
Take the experience of Solomon for an example. The Bible records in 1 Kings 3:4 that he offered a thousand burnt offerings to God, and this moved the Lord to visit him the same night: “…the Lord appeared to Solomon in a
dream by night. And God said, Ask what I shall give you”
(1 Kings 3:5 AMP). He got a blank cheque from the Lord for his big giving. This clearly shows that no matter how big we give, we can never out-give God. Your giving opens doors of greatness for you, and enables you to be an impact maker. Let your giving in the kingdom count. Be a cheerful and prompt-to do it, giver.
Prayer:
Precious Father, I thank you for teaching me the essence of giving. I’m a prompt to do it, cheerful giver. The kingdom matters to me, and my finances are involved in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I refuse to be a miser, in Jesus mighty Name.Amen!
