Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (1 Corinthians 9:24–27)

Being a Christian, you must make it a habit to practice righteousness, aligning your actions with God’s will every day. There’s an old saying: ‘Practice makes perfect.’ God made us in His own image and likeness, and the possibilities for us are limitless. While everyone is born with two hands and two legs, it’s those who practice—like athletes—who, with the very same hands and legs, outperform and win.

Practice is not a one-time thing; it’s something you do every day, every moment. Every opportunity you have to practice righteousness is an opportunity to step up. Practicing righteousness means being actively involved in establishing what is right through the Word of God.

Is there a time when you should apply your faith? Is there a time when you should pray? Is there a time to give, to intercede, or to preach the gospel and share your testimony? The answer is simple: in every moment, and with every opportunity that comes your way, you do what you are called to do. You’re not driven by the feelings of the carnal mind, but you train your mind to be led by the Spirit of God.

There are times when you must discipline yourself—times to wake up and times to rest. You can’t sleep when it’s time to pray or study the Word. There are places you must go, and places you must avoid. Remember, you are not a bundle of whims and desires. Your mind is your servant, and you have the power to control it. To win over your own mind is to be a true winner.

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You that in Christ, I am Your righteousness. I practice righteousness every day, and as I do, I become more skillful in righteousness and in the power of Your kingdom. Thank You for loving me and trusting me. I give You praise and honor. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. (Luke 9:62)

The opening verse of today’s Secret of Success suggests that the one who gets distracted is not worthy of the kingdom. This means you won’t be able to enjoy the benefits, the power, or the grace if you are distracted. To be distracted means you’re not exercising the power God has given you to make right choices. Anything around you can make you a prey. It’s like starting many things but completing nothing—you try to do everything but achieve nothing. That is distraction. There are billions of people on earth with the same story, living without making any impact, just like a photocopy of others. Refuse to be one of them, knowing that there is a great calling and a great plan that God has for you. Practice staying focused.

As you spend time with the Holy Spirit today, identify where you get distracted, and make up your mind to no longer be distracted. Identify the areas where you should focus and set time for everything. Focus helps you use your time wisely, while distractions steal it away.

Distractions are like maggots, weeds, or termites—they slowly eat away your time and energy. The good news is that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter and the Helper. He is the one who holds your hand and leads you forward. Relinquish control, submit yourself to His guidance, and stay focused on Him.

Cut off everything that can be a source of distraction. Many things may seem attractive, but just because they catch your eye, doesn’t mean they are helpful. You’ll be surprised by how much you can achieve in less time once you’ve trained yourself to stay focused.

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for filling me with the Holy Spirit, who helps me stay focused. I consciously train myself by practicing and maintaining my focus. I pray that You help me identify every source of distraction, so I can focus on the right things, cutting away everything that is not from You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. (2 Corinthians 3:5 NIV)

Now that you are born again in Christ, the full presence of the Holy Spirit dwells within you. The same Spirit of God who created the entire world lives in you, bringing all His power and ability. You have God’s ability within you.

While the enormous power of God is now within you, it will only be of benefit if you take action. God expects you to grow, mature, understand, and develop the power He has deposited in you through His Spirit. One of the greatest advantages of spending quiet time in the presence of God is that you discover your spiritual abilities. This time allows you to activate the power of God within you and experience it every day.

Through this article, God is communicating to you that one of the key focuses of your life should be discovering what He has placed inside you and making a conscious effort to put it to work.

During quiet time, you disconnect from all worldly distractions and personal thoughts, choosing instead to focus on the Spirit of God. This can be a time of worship where you express yourself to God, a time of meditation where you reflect on scriptures, or even a time of praying in tongues as you minister to Him. Often, when praying in tongues, there is a desire in your heart; perhaps you long for a change or wish to see something come to pass. As you pray, you may hold that desire in your mind, asking for God’s power to be released from within you. Your desire should be to understand the workings of the spiritual realm, and with that desire, you pray in tongues.

Those who hunger will be filled, and those who thirst will be quenched. However, unless you desire and hold a high esteem for spiritual things, you may not receive them. It’s not that God doesn’t want you to have them, but rather that He wants you to be prepared to handle the things of the higher realm.

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray in the name of Jesus that I may experience Your power working in my life. I desire to discover the spiritual life You have given me in Christ Jesus. I long to understand and operate in the greater spiritual dimensions to which You have called me. Thank You for Your love, and thank You for teaching me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
