He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. (Proverbs 17:27)
Being born again is the beginning of an extraordinary life in Christ. You have received the life of God and the Holy Spirit dwells in you, but you must still allow that life to influence your thinking, your attitudes, your words, and your behaviour. Excellence must be developed. You have to condition yourself to think, speak, and act according to the Word of God.
Think about Daniel. The Bible tells us that an excellent spirit was found in him. Daniel didn’t merely have the ability to interpret dreams; he possessed knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and the ability to dissolve doubts. His excellence was evident in the way he conducted himself and in the value he brought to the people around him. His spirit was excellent, and his character demonstrated it.
This is something you must become deliberate about. Make up your mind that you will not settle for mediocrity in your character. Decide to develop yourself. Learn more. Think more. improve yourself. Increase your capacity. Become more valuable to the people God has placed around you. Don’t simply desire an excellent life; develop an excellent character.
Your spirit has been recreated in Christ, and the Holy Spirit is in you. Now allow the Word of God to condition your mind and shape your character. Excellence begins from within and eventually becomes visible on the outside.

Dear Father, I thank You for the life I have received in Christ and for the Holy Spirit who lives in me. Thank You for Your Word that teaches and trains me in excellence. I declare that excellence is becoming evident in every area of my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
