For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7)
There is a powerful connection between your thinking and the life you eventually build. What you see around you is often a reflection of the thinking, decisions, values, and ideas of the people who built it. Before something becomes visible externally, it is usually conceived internally. A building exists in someone’s mind before it becomes a physical structure.
This principle applies to your personal life as well. The structures of your mind matter. Your thoughts influence your choices, your choices influence your habits, and your habits eventually influence the direction of your life. This is why the Word of God places such great emphasis on renewing the mind.
You cannot continually think small and expect to live an excellent life. You cannot constantly fill your mind with fear, bitterness, defeat, and negativity and expect those things not to affect your character. You have to deliberately expose your mind to the truth of God’s Word. Learn to think with wisdom. Learn to see possibilities. Learn to dream. Learn to acquire knowledge. Learn to improve yourself.
This doesn’t mean becoming proud or depending on human intelligence. Rather, it means recognising that God expects you to develop the capacity He has given you. Excellence requires learning. Excellence requires discipline. Excellence requires that you remain teachable.
So begin to examine your thinking. What have you allowed to become a permanent structure in your mind? What attitudes have you accepted as normal? What limitations have you placed on yourself? Bring your thinking under the influence of the Word of God and allow the Holy Spirit to teach you a better way.
Prayer:
Precious Father, I thank You for the mind You have given me and for the ability to learn, understand, reason, and grow. Thank You for Your Word, which renews my mind and gives me wisdom. I am grateful that I am not bound by wrong patterns of thinking. I consciously develop excellent thoughts, high ideals, godly values, and a greater capacity for the things You have called me to do. My mind is being renewed by Your Word continually, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
