Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him. (Daniel 6:3)

Excellence is closely connected with greatness. When we look at the lives of people who made significant impact in Scripture, we see that their greatness was not merely about their position. It was connected to what they carried within them.

David was a great man, and one of the things he did was teach his son about wisdom. He understood that the quality of a person’s inner life determines what that person can accomplish. Solomon received this instruction and made wisdom his priority.

You can have a great position without having great character. True greatness is not simply about what you possess or the position you occupy; it is about the quality of the person you have become.

This is why excellence must first be developed within you. Before you ask God for greater influence, allow Him to develop your character. Before you seek greater responsibilities, become responsible with what you already have. Before you desire to be recognised, become a person whose value is evident without recognition.

Excellence means surpassing ordinary standards. It means becoming better, wiser, more disciplined, and more valuable than you were before. It is not about competing with everyone around you; it is about refusing to remain at a lower level when you can grow. As you grow internally, the excellence within you will eventually become visible in your life.

Prayer:

Dear Father, I thank You for the ability to grow and develop into the person You have called me to be. I am grateful that true greatness begins within and that Your Word teaches me how to develop excellent character. I consciously pursue excellence and allow the greatness You have placed within me to find expression, bringing Glory to Your Name, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
