And the LORD said unto Abram, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: (Genesis 13:14)

Faith is not vague wishful thinking. When you desire to see something established in your life, you need to understand what you are believing God for. Specificity gives direction to your faith. When your desire is clearly defined and aligned with God’s Word, you can hold a definite picture before your heart as you pray and act.

God Himself gave Abraham something to look at. He lifted his eyes and showed him the land. Later, God brought Abraham’s attention to the stars and connected what he could see with the future He had promised. Abraham had to engage with what God was showing him before he could walk confidently toward its fulfilment.

This is important in the life of faith. Do not allow your prayers to become nothing more than general expressions of hope. Search the Word of God, understand what He has made available to you, and allow His Word to give shape to your expectation.

When your heart has a specific and clear, God-given direction, you can’t be easily distracted by temporary circumstances. You know what you are pursuing, why you are pursuing it, and what God’s Word says concerning it. Thus, your faith becomes focused rather than uncertain.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word, which gives clarity and direction to my faith. Thank You for teaching me to understand what I am believing You for and to keep my heart focused on what You have revealed, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
